Export keywords and open the file in Excel

KWFinder exports only the keywords you select.

Written by Dev + MKT

KWFinder exports only the keywords you select. Select the keywords, or all of them, then select Export and Export to CSV. The file is UTF-8 text with commas between values, so open it in Excel through an import, not by double-clicking it.

Select the keywords to export

KWFinder has no button that exports the whole keyword table at once. Export works on the keywords you tick:

  • All keywords: tick the box at the top of the keyword list, or press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on a Mac).

  • Some keywords: tick the box next to each one.

Select all takes every keyword the table shows at that moment. If a filter or a cluster is on, only the keywords it shows are selected. With nothing selected, Export cannot be used and says "Please, select some keywords first".

The export contains only the keywords loaded in the table. The table stops at your plan's number of keyword suggestions per search. See Find keyword ideas with KWFinder.

Export to a CSV file

  1. Select Export under the keyword table.

  2. Select Export to CSV.

The buttons under the keyword table, Track, Refresh, Add to list and Export, with the Export menu open on Copy to clipboard and Export to CSV.

KWFinder saves a file named after your search, for example kwfinder_coffee_grinder_export.csv, and says "Your keywords were successfully exported." Pressing E does the same for the selected keywords.

KWFinder builds the file in your browser from the data in the table, so an export uses no lookups.

Copy to clipboard in the same menu copies only the keywords, one per line, without their data.

Export a whole saved list

Select Lists in the top menu and select the download icon on the list. KWFinder exports every keyword in the list, with no need to select them. The file is named after the list. See Save keywords to lists.

What columns the export file has

An export from a keyword search has these columns, in this order:

  • Keyword, then four search volume averages: Avg. Search Volume (Last Known Values), (Last 12 months), (Last 6 months) and (Last 3 months).

  • Location, CPC in the currency you chose (for example CPC/USD), PPC and Keyword Difficulty.

  • Keyword interest growth (%), Content Type, Search Intent, Keyword Opportunities and Serp Features.

  • One Search Volume column per month, for example Search Volume 8/2026.

An export from a search by domain also has SERP Position and Estimated Visits, and its search volume is the 12-month average only. An empty cell means KWFinder has no value for it.

Open the CSV file in Excel

A double-click can open the KWFinder CSV file badly in Excel. Letters such as ä, é or ñ turn into odd symbols, or every value lands in one column. Import the file instead. In Excel for Microsoft 365 on Windows:

  1. Open a blank workbook.

  2. On the Data tab, select From Text/CSV, choose the file and select Import.

  3. Set File Origin to 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) and Delimiter to Comma.

  4. Select Load.

Other Excel versions name these steps differently. Look for the same two settings: UTF-8 and comma. Google Sheets and OpenOffice Calc open the file correctly too.

The export did not download

"We're sorry, the download is not working in this browser. Try Chrome or Firefox, please." means the download did not work in your browser. Try Chrome or Firefox. If you see "There was an error while exporting your data.", try again, and contact us if it repeats.

For data on a very large number of keywords, Mangools also offers custom data exports.
