Clusters, search history and keyboard shortcuts

Three smaller KWFinder features save time.

Written by Dev + MKT

Three smaller KWFinder features save time. Clusters groups the keywords in your list by the words they share. History lists your earlier searches so you can run one again. Keyboard shortcuts let you work through the table without the mouse: press Shift+? to see them all.

Group keywords into clusters

  1. Turn on the Clusters switch next to Filter, above the keyword list.

  2. Select the row that appears above the table. It starts as All keywords.

  3. Select a cluster. The table shows only the keywords in it.

The Filter and Clusters switches on and the open cluster list: All keywords and clusters such as coffee grinder and grinder, each with its number of keywords, Total searches and Avg. KD, under Search for a cluster.

Each cluster shows how many keywords it has, Total searches (the sum of their average monthly search volumes) and Avg. KD. A "?" in place of the KD means KWFinder has no Keyword Difficulty (KD) for those keywords yet. Type in Search for a cluster... to find one. To see every keyword again, select All keywords.

How KWFinder builds the clusters

The Clusters switch is marked BETA. Clustering runs in your browser on the keywords already loaded in the list. It never adds keywords to the list, and it uses no lookups.

  • A cluster is a word or a phrase of up to three words that at least 3 keywords share. Its name is at least 4 characters long, and words shorter than 3 letters are ignored.

  • Longer phrases are tried first. Each keyword joins one cluster only.

  • Common words of the search language, such as "the" and "for" in English, are ignored.

  • Keywords that share nothing with others are in no cluster. You see them only under All keywords.

  • The cluster with the most total searches comes first, counted over all the loaded keywords, also when a filter is on.

Clusters needs at least 3 keywords in the list. With fewer, it says "Not enough keywords for clustering (minimum 3 required)". Clusters is not available in Keyword Gap. If a filter is on, choosing a cluster narrows the filtered list further. See Filter your keyword results.

Find an earlier search in your search history

Select History in the KWFinder top menu. The Search history panel lists your earlier searches:

  • A keyword search shows the keyword, its KD, the location and the language.

  • A search by domain shows the domain, its site icon and the location.

Click an entry to run that search again, with the same location and language. A re-run counts as a new search: it uses one keyword lookup and one SERP lookup. A keyword search opens on Related keywords. Search history is saved in your Mangools account, not in your browser.

Clear history deletes every entry at once. KWFinder does not ask first, and there is no way to bring the entries back. It then shows "History was successfully cleared."

Keyboard shortcuts in KWFinder

Press Shift+? or select the keyboard icon at the top right to see the list in KWFinder. The icon is not shown on touch screens or in narrow windows. On a Mac, use Cmd where the table says Ctrl.

What KWFinder remembers in your browser

KWFinder keeps these settings in your browser for next time: the last location and language, the search volume timeframe, the filter settings, the CPC currency, light or dark mode, and your column choices. Another browser or device starts with the defaults. Lists and search history are saved in your account, so they are the same everywhere.
