SERPWatcher sums up each tracking in three numbers on the right of the tracking page. The Performance Index and the Visibility index are scores from 0 to 100. Estimated visits is the monthly organic traffic your tracked keywords could bring at their current positions.
Each number shows the value on the last day of your timeframe. The percentage next to it compares that value with the first day.
What is the Performance Index?
In SERPWatcher, the Performance Index is a score from 0 to 100 for a whole tracking. Its tooltip says it "shows your ranking performance based on current positions and weights (search volumes) of your keywords". A higher score means better rankings.
Search volume is the weight. A keyword with a high search volume moves the Performance Index more than a keyword few people search for.
The Performance Index is in the card Performance Index and Visibility at the top right of a tracking. It shows a value such as 42.17 / 100. In the trackings list, each tracking's card shows its Performance Index for the last 30 days. Those 30 days end yesterday, so a tracking you created today shows 0.00 / 100 on its card until tomorrow.
What is the Visibility index?
In SERPWatcher, the Visibility index is a score from 0 to 100 for how much of the Google results page your keywords take up. Its tooltip says Visibility "represents the visual dominance of your keywords based on the position relative to the top edge and the total area covered".
A result near the top of the page that covers a large area scores higher. The Visibility index sits next to the Performance Index, labeled Visibility Index, and is the shaded area on the same chart.
The Visibility index is marked "beta", with the note: "We are still tuning the visibility formula, so the values of this metric may change."
The colored bar next to a top-10 keyword
In the keyword table, a keyword in the top 10 can show a small colored bar. Point at it to see where your result sits on the results page: "above the fold", "at the fold" or "below the fold". The fold is the bottom of the first screen a searcher sees. The tooltip also gives the distance in pixels "from the top edge".
If several of your pages rank for the keyword, the tooltip adds "Applies to the highest ranking url in the SERP."
Estimated visits: what the number means
In SERPWatcher, Estimated visits is the organic traffic per month that your tracked keywords could bring to the domain. The Estimated visits card shows the total for the tracking: "the overall (aggregated) organic traffic per month for the tracked domain coming from your tracked keywords".
Each keyword has its own value in the EV column of the keyword table. The column tooltip says: "Estimated Visits per month on your current SERP rank. Calculated from the average monthly search volume." Point at a keyword's EV value to see its "EV change".
Estimated visits is an estimate, not a count of real visits. It covers only the keywords in the tracking, so your analytics tool can show a different number.
Why did the Performance Index jump?
A large change in SERPWatcher's Performance Index, Visibility index or Estimated visits usually has one of these causes:
The timeframe changed. The numbers are for the last day of the timeframe, and the percentage compares it with the first day.
The starting value was small. The percentage is relative to the first day. A move from 2 to 4 shows as 100%. If the first day was 0, any rise shows as 100%.
You filtered the keywords. With a filter on, the Performance Index and Estimated visits cover only the filtered keywords.
Keywords were added or removed. The numbers then cover a different set of keywords. A dot on the chart marks the day. Click the chart on that day to read the note, for example "Added 12 keywords".
Your rankings were updated. The scores follow your current positions, which update once a week on Basic and Premium and every day on Agency.
To find the keywords behind a change, check Top gainers and Top losers on the right. One pair ranks keywords by their Performance Index change (PI), the other by their Estimated visits change (EV). Each table lists up to 10 keywords whose rank moved.
Scores for part of a tracking
When you filter a tracking's keywords, for example by tag, SERPWatcher recalculates the Performance Index and Estimated visits for the filtered keywords only.
The Performance Index and Estimated visits charts then show two lines. Point at the chart to tell them apart: "Overall" is the whole tracking, drawn faded, and "Subset" is the filtered keywords. A subset can score higher than the whole tracking, because those keywords rank better than the rest.
"N/A" or "Not enough history data"
SERPWatcher shows "N/A" for the Performance Index and the Visibility index when it has no data for the last day of the timeframe. Estimated visits then shows 0. This happens, for example, when the timeframe ends before the tracking existed. Choose Today or Entire history in the date picker.
A chart that says "Not enough history data." needs data for at least 2 days. A new tracking shows this message until it has them.
Hide a score you do not use
In SERPWatcher, select Customization in the top menu.
Tick Hide visibility index, Hide performance index or Hide estimated visits.
Select Save settings.
The settings apply to every tracking in your account. Hide estimated visits hides the Estimated visits card, while the EV column and the EV top tables stay. The settings change only your own view: they do not travel with a shared tracking link.
For every other column and icon on a tracking, see Read your keyword rankings: the table, keyword details and SERP features. For when the numbers update, see How often SERPWatcher updates your rankings.
