Find a website's backlinks with LinkMiner

Type a domain or URL into LinkMiner's search box and select Find backlinks.

Written by Dev + MKT

Type a domain or URL into LinkMiner's search box and select Find backlinks. LinkMiner loads up to 500 backlinks at a time, and each backlink it loads uses one backlink row from your monthly allowance. Sorting and filters work only on the backlinks already loaded.

Run a LinkMiner search

  1. Open LinkMiner.

  2. Choose All, New or Lost above the search box. All is selected by default.

  3. Type a domain or URL in Enter a domain or URL, for example example.com.

  4. Leave One link per ref. domain ticked to see one backlink from each linking website. Clear it to see every backlink from each website.

  5. Select Find backlinks. On the results page, the same button is a green arrow.

The LinkMiner search form with the All, New and Lost tabs, the Enter a domain or URL box, the One link per ref. domain checkbox ticked and the Find backlinks button.

If the box shows "Please insert a valid URL.", LinkMiner did not recognize the address. The box takes a domain, such as example.com, or a full web address.

What to type: domain, subdomain, URL or path

LinkMiner gives different results for different forms of the same address. A yellow label next to the searched address shows which type LinkMiner used. Select the label to open Supported Input Types.

You type

Label

Backlinks you get

example.com

Root domain

The whole domain, all subdomains included. This is the recommended input.

www.example.com

Subdomain

Only that subdomain

https://example.com/faq

Exact URL

Only that exact page

example.com/blog/*

Path URL*

Every page under that path

For an exact URL, http and https are different URLs with different backlinks. So are the versions with and without www.

When you search anything other than a root domain, LinkMiner shows "Change to root domain to see all links." Select Change to root domain to search the whole domain with the same tab and settings. That is a new search, so it uses backlink rows.

If a path is too broad, LinkMiner says "Sorry, this path URL* has too many matches". Try a longer path.

All, new and lost backlinks

The All tab searches all the backlinks LinkMiner has for the address. New shows recently found backlinks, and Lost shows backlinks that have disappeared. LinkMiner does not show the date range it uses for new and lost links. See Why a backlink is missing, marked deleted or counted differently.

The One link per ref. domain box appears only on the All tab. New and Lost always show every backlink from each linking website. After a New or Lost search, the box is cleared when you switch back to All. Tick it again to see one backlink from each website.

See more than 500 backlinks

LinkMiner loads backlinks in pages of 500. Select Load more under the table to add the next 500 below. To jump to a page instead, type its number in Page: and press Enter. That page replaces the table.

The two numbers next to Page:, for example "394 / 394", are the backlinks displayed and the backlinks loaded so far. The second number is not the domain's total. When a page comes back with fewer than 500 backlinks, there is nothing more to load and Load more is greyed out.

Sorting and filters use only loaded backlinks

In LinkMiner, select a column heading to sort the table. Sorting and filters work in your browser on the backlinks already loaded. They never fetch more. So sorting by Link Strength (LS) shows the strongest of your loaded backlinks, not of the whole domain. Load more first if you need a wider view.

The Source URL heading does not sort from A to Z. It keeps the order LinkMiner received the backlinks in, or reverses it.

A new search resets the quick filters and turns the advanced filter off. See Filters, favorites and the website preview.

What a LinkMiner search uses from your plan

Each backlink LinkMiner loads uses one backlink row, and that includes the backlinks Load more adds. A search that loaded 394 backlinks took the Backlink rows bar in the account menu from "2k" to "1.6k". A Load more that added 500 backlinks used 500 backlink rows.

Backlink rows are a monthly allowance. Basic includes 100,000 backlink rows per month, Premium 500,000 and Agency 1,200,000. Free+ includes 2,000 for the whole Free+ period. The pricing card calls this limit "Backlinks".

The account menu shows what is left and when the bar resets, for example "25d 8h 30m to reset". With One link per ref. domain ticked, fewer backlinks load for the same domain, so a search uses fewer rows. See How lookups and limits work, and when they reset.

Find an earlier search

Select History in LinkMiner's top menu. The Search history panel lists your earlier searches with the address, an All, New or Lost label and a link icon: one link for "One link per ref. domain", two links for "Multiple links per ref. domain". Click a search to run it again with the same settings.

Clear history deletes the whole list at once, with no confirmation. LinkMiner then shows "History was successfully cleared."

Messages you may see

  • "You're doing too much" with "You've used all of your searches." and Upgrade my plan: your backlink rows are used up until the monthly reset. This can happen on a search or on Load more. See Out of limits? Your options.

  • "Sorry, you exceeded maximum allowed API requests per second.": LinkMiner received too many requests in a short time. The table may also say "You have spent all your lookups", even when you have backlink rows left. Wait a moment and search again.

  • "Sorry, there aren't any backlinks": LinkMiner has no backlinks for this address. Try the root domain, or a different form of the URL.

  • "Sorry, there was an error with our 3rd party API provider.": LinkMiner could not get the data. Try again. If it persists, contact us through the live chat or at [email protected] with the address you searched.
