Share of Search compares the search volume of up to 5 keywords, usually brand names, and shows each one's share of the total. If you are not signed in, you can compare the last 12 months only. Its one error message, "We couldn't dig up anything for these keywords", can also mean that the tool's searches are used up.

How do you compare brands?

  1. Type a keyword and press Enter. Repeat for up to 5 keywords. Each keyword must be 2 to 256 characters.

  2. Choose a location. It starts at Worldwide.

  3. Choose a time period.

  4. Select See share of search.

Share of Search has no language setting. It uses search volume in all languages for the location you chose.

After a search, the page address holds your keywords, location and period. Copy it to share the comparison. Opening the link runs the search again.

Which time periods can you use?

Share of Search offers Last 12 months, Last 24 months, Last 36 months and All time. If you are not signed in, the three longer periods are marked "Register to unlock", and choosing one opens a sign-up dialog. Any Mangools account unlocks them, a free one included.

How is the share calculated?

Share of Search takes the monthly search volume of each keyword. A keyword's share is its volume in the latest month, divided by the total of all your keywords in that month. The pie chart shows these shares.

  • Share of search in time shows each keyword month by month. Relative shows the shares in percent, and Total shows the search volumes.

  • Total search amount shows the combined search volume of all your keywords per month.

So the pie chart reflects one month. A brand with a seasonal peak can have a very different share a few months earlier, which the time chart shows.

"Whoops! We couldn't dig up anything for these keywords"

Share of Search shows this message whenever it gets no data back, whatever the reason. It can mean either of two things:

  • No data for your keywords: search volume was not found for them in that location. Try other spellings, the brand's best-known name, or Worldwide.

  • The searches are used up, or the request failed: Share of Search shows no separate message when its allowance runs out. If familiar brand names that worked before now return this message, turn off any ad blocker for mangools.com, or wait and try again later.

If the message stays for keywords you know have searches, contact us at [email protected] with the keywords and the location.

The button stays on "Loading..."

The button stays on "Loading..." when the search could not be sent. Share of Search checks each search with Google reCAPTCHA, and an ad blocker or privacy extension can block it. Turn the blocker off for mangools.com, check your connection and reload the page.
